Yesterday we went on a walking field trip to the West Brattleboro Post Office. There was lots of snow on the ground, but the sidewalks were plowed so we were able to make it! The Kindergartners each wrote a letter to their families, purchased a stamp from Holly and mailed it. We got to cancel our stamp, get a tour of the post office and helped Holly wait on the customers. It was a great time!
This we celebrated the 100th day of school! It is a huge milestone in the primary grades. We talked about how we have become 100 days smarter since the first day of school. One thing that we did was to find out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. This was a delicious and fun way to practice counting! We were so busy having fun I forgot to take pictures...ooops!
This was our 6th and final visit from Bonny. She read Kiss The Cow by Phyllis Root and talked about dairy and why it’s important to drink/eat it. Then we made Greek Yogurt Chocolate Pudding. We learned so much from her and her visits will be missed!
Wow, what a day! The Kindergartners had such fun opening all of their valentine cards and celebrating with treats this afternoon! Thank you to all the parents who organized the party! It was such a special day to share together with the ones we love!

Academy School has begun their Winter Walking program to encourage physical fitness during the cold winter months. Each class or individual walks laps around the school building or the playground. We have begun a new way to keep track of the laps. Each child wears an ID tag with a barcode and scans it by the Ipad after every lap. That is fantastic for Kindergarten! My students are very excited about this program....the individual and class prizes are also a great incentive.
Yesterday we had a wonderful literacy breakfast! Thank you so much to all of the parents and grandparents who attended this event! Each child was given a copy of Over and Under The Snow by Kate Messner and enjoyed breakfast in the classroom. It was so exciting to have our families here to spend time with us!
Bonny - Read the book I will Never Not Ever Eat A Tomato by Lauren Child and we talked about foods in the Protein group including beans, eggs, meat and fish. We then made Hawaiian Lettuce Wraps. The kids LOVED them so much!!!
My students were given the STEM challenge to build something using exactly 100 items. They were given the option to use anything in the room, but they had to count out 100 items. This in itself was quite a big challenge! They did an amazing job!

This week we opened our very own Kindergarten Post Office in our classroom. This has been so exciting! The children are using the literacy skills that they have been working on all year to write letters to their friends and to special adults in the building. It has been wonderful to see all of their hard work and pride when they have finished writing a letter!
Bonny read Yoko by Rosemary Wells and we learned that it’s recommended to “make ½ your grains whole.” We named and looked at several different grains and talked about whole grain breads and other products. We made basic fried rice and ate it.
