In the past few weeks we have had a few secret readers come in to read to us. Our first secret reader was a great aunt and she read a book about the Ninja Turtles. Needless to say it was a big hit! The second secret reader is a special neighbor who read the book The Chicken's Child by Margaret A. Hartelius. It was a very funny story that is a wordless picture book so the students had the chance to make up their own words. They loved it! Thank you to both of you!

We had a mom come into our classroom last Friday as our secret reader. She read the book Duck On A Bike by David Shannon. It is a very funny book about a duck who likes to ride a bike and what happens when all of his barn yard friends see him having fun. The class loved it!
Last week we finished up our study of the human body. We learned about our five senses, the importance of our skeleton and different organs inside our body. We created these anatomy aprons over the course of our unit. The kindergarteners have learned so much about how their body works and ways to keep their bodies healthy.

Last week we had a mom, who is a Dental Hygienist, come into our class to talk about how to take care of our teeth. She sorted pictures of various items and glued them on either the "happy tooth" or the "sad tooth". She also showed the Kindergarteners how to brush their teeth the proper way (should be done for 2 minutes and brushing the insides, outsides and tops of the teeth) and how to floss. She also read the book The Lion Who Wouldn't Brush His Teeth by Mike Peele. It was a great learning experience!
Right before break we had a babysitter come in to be our secret reader. She read two great stories. One was Love Splat! by Rob Scotton and the other one was the classic The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch and Michael Martchenko. They loved these stories!
Nurse Amy came in to talk to the three Kindergartens about a very important topic...poisons. We have been spending lots of time talking about our bodies and how to keep them healthy. She showed them pictures of different items that you might see around your home and why those things could make us sick if we were to drink or eat them (detergent, gasoline, etc.) This talk is part of our human body unit which we do each year.

Before April Break, Governor Shumlin came to Academy School to announce grant money that was being given to Academy School for our wood boiler. The children thought that it was very exciting to be part of a press conference!!
