Yesterday we were lucky enough to have a dad come in and be our secret reader. He read us the book The Seven Silly Eaters by Mary Ann Hoberman. It was the first time many of us, including myself, had ever heard this story. It was a funny story about a growing family full of picky eaters. We loved it!
Last week we started a short unit titled "What Do Animals Do In Winter?" by reading non-fiction texts about winter animals. This gave us some different types of animals that we are currently working hard to learn more about - migrators (movers), hibernators (sleepers) and adaptors (changers). We broke up into three kinds of migrating animal groups and found ourselves very cold and hungry in our classroom. We had to "migrate" through out building to find warmth and food. Last Friday every student had the opportunity to bring in a stuffed animal and we role played hibernation. We did some fun bear math, ate a big snack, hibernated then had some warm cocoa to let us know that it was springtime. The children really seem to be learning and understanding these concepts.
Last week we had Lizzie's mom come in and read the story The Way I Feel by Janan Cain. Unfortunately I wasn't there to take any pictures, but I know that the class really enjoyed having her come in and read to them. Thank you so much for being a secret reader!

Yesterday was "Daija Day" in our classroom. She has been doing a high school independent study with me for the first half of the year and spent every day with us from 8:20-9:45am. Daija did such a wonderful job and will become an amazing teacher. We are going to miss her very much!

Academy School is lucky enough to have an amazing rock wall. The Kindergarteners were given the opportunity by Mr. Johnson in physical education class, if they wanted to, to wear a special harness and climb up the wall as high as they wanted! This was such a thrill for them!
Yesterday we had our first secret reader of the year and it was a birthday surprise!! This Dad read us the book Mike Mulligan And His Steam Shovel by Virginia Lee Burton. This book is his son's favorite book and it is mine as well. The class loved it!
