Stone Soup Celebration

Thank you to everyone for making our Stone Soup celebration such a success!  They worked so hard on organizing the event (invitations, hats, ingredients, etc) and reading their books. It was a great afternoon!  The Kindergarteners have been so looking forward to this day and I think everyone had a great time!  Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Amazing bulletin board! Thanks to Tish and Stephanie!

iPads in Kindergarten

This week the Kindergarteners were introduced to the iPad!  It was so exciting!  Many of the children said that they knew someone who had one or knew someone who wanted one for a present.  I did a demonstration lesson to small groups of children on the proper way to use the iPads (clean hands, turning it on and off, terminology, etc.) Then, I instructed them on how to use a few apps and off they went! Lots of excitement and creativity were felt by both students and adults!

Visit to the Fire Station

We had a great trip to the West Brattleboro Fire Station !  The firefighter greeted us at the door and showed us all of the supplies on the truck. He also talked to us about fire safety. The kids were told that if they were ever trapped in their bedrooms during a fire, they should open their window and throw stuffed animals down and yell.  I thought that was a great tip!  He put on his gear to show the kids what he looked like with his gear on so that if they ever saw a firefighter during a fire they would not be scared.  We went upstairs and saw where the firefighters "live" when they are not responding to a call. The highlight of the trip was the opportunity to get into the fire truck. We learned so many new things on this trip!

Halloween Pumpkin Decorating Contest!

We are so lucky at Academy School to have many wonderful events and Halloween is no exception. The pumpkin decorating contest this year was amazing and competition was very fierce. I am happy to let you know that our Kindergarten class won a prize....we came in 2nd place!  We have earned $75 towards a field trip!  The Kindergarteners (and teachers) were very excited!!  Our entry was Community Helpers Halloween Safety.  We are very proud of our win!

Halloween Costume Parade

On Friday, we celebrated Halloween at Academy School!  We walked in a parade across the street to Melrose Terrace to show off our fabulous costumes and to get a little treat from the residents who live there.  Upon returning to school, we had a little Halloween party and looked around at all of the great pumpkin displays.  It was such a great day!

Halloween Fun!

We had such a great time celebrating Halloween in Kindergarten!  We started off our day by listening to Arthur's Halloween by Marc Brown read aloud by our high school intern, Daija.  She spends an hour and half each day with us and is learning what it is like to be a teacher.  We also had Maizy's mom, Jen, come into class and sing with us.  It was such a great start to our morning!

Daija did a great job reading!

Always fun singing with Jen!

Bat Hats

Last week we created these cute bat hats!  The children worked hard to carefully cut out all of the pieces!  They did such a great job! Such a cute group photo!
