On Friday, we took a hike on the Academy School nature trail. The Kindergarteners love going out into the woods to work in nature's classroom. We used our senses to observe changes we have seen since the last time we were out there. We talked about the reason why leaves change color and read a non-fiction book filled with information. We took time to make observational drawings of a maple tree in autumn. There was also some time for exploring in the woods - a favorite thing to do!

Our science focus for this month has been around the changing of the seasons. Vermont is the perfect place to do this type of study! We have been integrating art and literacy to create some beautiful bulletin board displays of our work. The Kindergarteners created apple prints and with adult assistance wrote poems about apples using their five senses. They also created poems saying good bye to one of their favorite summer activities and hello to fall.

One of the Kindergarteners favorite times of the week is going to "specials" - art, music, library and physical education. In PE today with Mr. Johnson, the class started by playing the game rock, paper, scissors. Next, he taught them how to use the scooter boards. They had such fun learning how to use them different ways - sitting on the bottoms, using their feet and hands, laying on their bellies, etc.
