Yoga with Mr. Johnson

Physical Education with Mr. Johnson has quickly become one of the favorite times of the week for my Kindergarteners.  It is a fun, engaging and active time!  This week Mr. Johnson taught the students how to do several yoga poses.  It is such a great activity to improve balance, flexibility and strength. They did a super job!

Fractions with the Fifth Graders

This week we worked with our big buddies in their classroom.  It was very exciting!  Our fifth grade buddies are just beginning a math unit on fractions.  The partners worked together to create paper plate pizzas with various toppings.  The fifth graders then had to determine what fraction of the pizza had each topping.  Great project!

Winter Walking

Academy School has begun their Winter Walking program to encourage physical fitness during the cold winter months.  Each class or individual walks laps around the school building or the playground.  After the first week, our class has walked 599 laps!  That is fantastic for Kindergarten!  My students are very excited about this program....the individual and class prizes are also a great incentive.

Showing off the toe tokens we earned this week...1 toe token = 20 laps

Secret Reader

Last week we had the wonderful opportunity to have a dad as our secret reader!  He read the book On The Night You Were Born  by Nancy Tillman.  It was a great story!

Star Of The Day

Each day in the month of January we are doing a little extra to honor our star person of the day. For each student, we create a star with all the reasons why this person is special.  It is such a wonderful experience to hear why your friends think you are special.  The smile tells it all!

Our Winter Window

Recently with our big kids, we made this Winter Window bulletin board.  Each student made their own winter pictures on blue paper and then put the black window panes on.  When we put all the pictures together, it becomes a beautiful winter scene.

Actor's Theater

January is all about Fairy Tales.  We will read many fairy tales including many of the most common… 3 Little Pigs, 3 Bears, 3 Billy Goats Gruff and many others. We have an Actor’s Theater with props for the children to re-create the stories and put on performances for their classmates during choice time. Today the Kindergarteners put on a  performance of Cinderella for all of us to enjoy!

Prince Charming, Fairy Godmother, Step-Sister and Cinderella

Secret Reader Begins!

Today we had our first Secret Reader of the year!  It was so exciting!  Our Secret Reader knocked on the door and we had to guess who it was by the three clues we heard. It took until the very last clue to figure out who it was!  It was Sue Clarke, a former childcare provider for one of the Kindergarteners!!  She read us the book A Letter To Amy by Ezra Jack Keats.  It was a great story!!
I wonder who our next Secret Reader will be???
